The 2017 Fundica Roadshow resulted in an incredible turnout at DMZ on May 24, 2017. The competition was tough with a total of 15 startups all pitching for the $1,000,000 Investment Award, but one winner took home the trophy for Toronto.

The startups were judged by a panel of 15 individuals composed of angels, VCs, banks and government organizations from First Stone Ventures Partners, MaRS IAF, PyCap, Espresso Capital, OCE, Extreme Venture Partners, BDC, The Working Group, Impression Ventures, Mitacs and others.

In addition to an opportunity to receive the $1,000,000 FSVP Investment Award, each Fundica Roadshow city stop winner receives 3 months of free office space at WeWork, a cloud hosting package from CANARIE and free accounting services from Intuit QuickBooks.

The pitching startups were graded based on market potential, solution, team, pitch and readiness for the $1,000,000 FSVP Investment Award.

Nate Seiling, CEO of Quote Kong, took home the trophy for Toronto after a captivating pitch on how company automates the quoting process for contractors. He emphasized the time and money-draining aspects of creating quotes from scratch by throwing a load of cash on the stage.

“If Quote Kong gets the million dollars, there is so much more on the roadmap that I want to accomplish,” said Seiling, “I want the guys that are really good at swinging the hammer to be really good at swinging the hammer. I don’t want them to be really good at doing paperwork. That’s not what they’re built for. That’s not what you want as a homeowner. You want a good renovation done.”
