Guelph's voices of entrepreneurship (Views: 2730)

The second stop in this year’s Funding Roadshow (FRS) was Guelph. Though it didn’t feature in our roadshow last year, Guelph is home to some of the country’s most innovative startups in fields such as Clean Tech and Food & Agriculture. At the heart of it all are the Guelph Chamber of Commerce (GCC) and Innovation Guelph (IG), our community and hosting partners during our April 11th stop in the Royal City.

Guelph Chamber of Commerce
GuelphChamberofCommerceLogo.jpg The GCC is an active voice for the business community in Guelph, contributing to economic growth, profitability, competitiveness and community involvement. Its origins date back to the founding of the city in 1827, and it has been playing a key role ever since: promoting local businesses, providing networking opportunities, organizing professional development training and seminars, among many others. If you’re in Guelph, make sure to join the GCC and reap all the benefits of membership!

Innovation Guelph

IG has a team of nine Entrepreneurs in Residence who have played a part in the creation of over 200 new jobs, and helped our clients retain an additional 300 jobs. IG has helped to channel over $12M into our client companies over the past three years; with an additional $10 M in Angel investment into 17 companies, on the table for 2013/2014. Its new location at 111 Farquhar St. has seen over 5000 people utilize the space for events, workshops, networking, and community meetings.

Local Focus, Broad Applications
The GCC and IG are central to the success of many small and medium businesses in Guelph thanks to their dedication to the local community. For instance, they have developed in-house expertise to better meet the needs of enterprises in Clean Tech, Food & Agriculture, Health & Wellness, Social Entrepreneurship, Creative & Digital Media, and Advanced Manufacturing. Over the past years, companies that have benefited from their support have been featured in The Globe and Mail, Business Venture Magazine and Roger's TV, among others.
