You know there will be startups, panels, workshops, and more, but what can you really expect from the Fundica Roadshow’s Montreal event?

Here’s a breakdown of your day.

You’ll begin by taking care of the basics, such as signing in at our registration desk and picking up your nametag. Once signed-in, provided you arrive at the Roadshow early, you’ll have time to get situated and network with other attendees. While mingling, you’ll encounter entrepreneurs and funders of all kinds, students, and maybe even a few members of the press.

When everyone has arrived and settled, we’ll kick off the day with a panel presented by R&D partners. Raising a Big Round in AI will feature speakers from Dialogue, LANDR, and SPORTLOGiQ, all of whom are harnessing artificial intelligence, machine learning, and virtual environments to enhance the realms of healthcare, sports, and music, respectively. Cumulatively, these companies have raised over $33 million in funding.

And that’s just our mainstage. Meanwhile, on our workshop stage, Jean-Francois Lauzon from the National Bank of Canada will give a workshop titled Business Model Canvas 101.

If you need a break from all this edification, you can return to our main room, where our MC, Rick Miller, will deliver a short talk on the art of storytelling. Or, if you’d prefer to absorb all the information you can, you can remain in our workshop room, where Sunny Handa, a partner at Blakes, will take you through the most pressing legal issues faced by entrepreneurs.

Next on our schedule is the sure-to-be-stimulating panel Investing in Female-Led Tech Startups, presented by National Bank. Its panelists, leading figures from Anges Quebec, iNovia Capital, Brightspark Ventures, and IRYStec, will bring their perspectives on investing in female entrepreneurs—a frequently underrepresented and overlooked demographic. Thriving in the realms of venture capital and new tech, these they will undoubtedly provide invaluable insights into the world of investing.

And yet, if you want to take full advantage of our agenda, you might want to head over to our B Room, because, concurrent with our Female-Led panel, Amélie Morency will be delivering a talk on the bankruptcy of her incubator FoodRoom, a company that, until late last year, offered culinary coworking spaces to food businesses.

Next come the events you’ve been waiting for. From 10:50 a.m. - 12:30 p.m., our first round of selected startups will take to the mainstage to pitch to our judges. Meanwhile, in our workshop room, unselected startups looking for redemption can enter the Wildcard Pitch-Off. The Wildcard Pitch-Off operates on a first-come, first-serve basis. Anyone can enter, anyone can win, and, therefore, anyone has a chance to make it onto our mainstage, where they will compete against our selected startups for a chance to make it to the finale and take home the $500,000 investment award.

By this point in the day, you’ll have worked up an appetite. Fortunately, lunch comes next. The Roadshow will offer a variety of refreshments as well as a catered meal, courtesy of Alexis le Gourmand.

After this hour-long break, we’ll ease back into the excitement with a musical medley, followed swiftly by our highly-anticipated keynote speech; Yona Shtern, former CEO of Beyond the Rack, will deliver his first public talk about the rise and fall of his e-retail giant.

Then, without further ado, we’ll begin the second round of our pitches, which will take place alongside a series of workshops, including How to Acquire the Government of Canada as a Customer by Christopher Zakhem and The Art of Monetization: Double Your Revenues by Yann Jodoin, former SVP of National Bank.

Our speaking sessions will end with a panel presented by CANARIE—entitled The Future of Fundraising: Blockchain & Crowdfunding—and two workshops: The Sun in Your Watch, by former CEO of Uvolt Antony Diaz, and How Sports Make You a Better Entrepreneur, by David Girard, former athlete and Cirque du Soleil artist.

Fittingly, our day’s events will end with a final round of live pitches and a talk by Mike Lee of R&D partners, which will tackle non-dilutive fundraising. Finally, after a period of careful consideration, we’ll the announce our winning startup.

If you still have energy after this long day of spectating and participating, don’t worry—the Roadshow won’t end there. Our May 1st event will conclude with a networking cocktail party, meaning you’ll be able solidify your new connections and celebrate the Montreal Roadshow’s completion in style.
