The province of Quebec is once again encouraging businesses to remain competitive by encouraging the use of digital technologies. Through the newly implemented tax credit for the integration of IT in manufacturing SMBs, Quebec-based manufacturing SMBs can obtain an 80% refundable tax credit on expenditures incurred after October 7, 2013, and before January 1, 2018 if they are related to the integration of qualified information technology.

In order to obtain the tax credit, applicants must first obtain a certificate from Invest Quebec which will attest the qualification of the IT integration contract. To qualify, the IT integration contract must respect the following conditions:

- The contract is related to a preliminary analysis that enables the corporation or partnership to set out a plan describing its needs in order to gain access to a computer systems infrastructure to optimize its business processes through the use of an integrated management software package (ERP), a customer relationship management package (CRM) or a supply chain management software package (SCM).

- The contract must be entered into with a person at arm's length with the corporation or partnership. Said arm’s-length person must either assist the applicant in acquiring or leasing an eligible software package; deliver services related to the development, integration, reconfiguration and evolution of an eligible software package; deliver services required to support and train the applicant’s employees and resolve bugs related to the integration of the software package; or purchase or lease general-purpose electronic data processing equipment and associated systems software required to integrate the eligible software package.

The refundable tax credit covers 25% of eligible expenditures up to a total of $62,500.
