BCIC - Equipping BC Tech Founders with tools and Expertise (Views: 3933)

Sun, 30 Mar 2014

Startup founders often don’t know what they don’t know…until they know it. Many discover that the road to success is steeper than first envisioned and they need all the help they can get. That’s where the BC Innovation Council (BCIC), one of Fundica’s major partners, comes in to connect BC tech founders with the tools, resources, and expert guidance they need to build successful companies.

By partnering with universities and industry organizations, BCIC facilitates programs that commercialize BC technologies. In harmony with its mission, and in step with the BC Jobs Plan, BCIC supports startups and develops entrepreneurs.

Synergy—basically meaning we are better together—is a frequently used buzzword associated with achieving success. The idea behind that word, the working together of two or more things to produce an effect greater than the sum of their individual effects, is the spirit that drives both Fundica’s 2014 Funding Roadshow and the BC Innovation Council.

BCIC’s flagship program is the BC Venture Acceleration Program, British Columbia’s largest province-wide network of accelerators. The program has over 200 participating companies spread across 10 accelerators spanning almost the entire province.

BCIC is also the lead partner of the BCIC-New Ventures Competition, one of North America's largest technology business idea competitions. The Competition provides early-stage tech entrepreneurs education, mentorship, and exposure to help build a successful venture through a 10-week business seminar and networking series where participants compete for over $300,000 in cash & prizes. Competition alumni have raised over 200 million dollars in investment financing and generated over 3,100 jobs for British Columbians.

BCIC is successfully working towards a strong and rapidly growing innovation economy that can create rewarding careers for British Columbians in BC, and with that in mind, invites entrepreneurs and startups to partner with it for success.
