Ontario Centres of Excellence and Alberta Innovates-Technology Futures’ (AITF) Alberta-Ontario Innovation Program supports inter-provincial industry-academic projects that look to solve industrial challenges with the help of research and development.
The goal of this program is to generate economic benefits in both provinces, including job creation, job retention, increased productivity, greater innovation and increased return on innovation (ROI). Valued up to $12 million, the Alberta-Ontario Innovation Program supports innovation in the strategic innovation areas: advanced materials and manufacturing, energy and environment (including water), nanotechnology, agriculture, forestry, advanced health technologies, life sciences, biotechnology, information, communications technology and digital media.
Any project scheduled to last more than 24 months, with at least one industrial partner with operations in both Alberta and Ontario and an academic partner is eligible for this program. Project costs such as consultancy fees, materials, equipment, travel and overhead costs will be borne by this program.
The Alberta-Ontario Program is a two-step, competitive process: 1) submission of an Expression of Interest (EOI) and 2) submission of a full NSERC application once the proponents of selected EOIs are invited. Expressions of Interest will be accepted until February 13, 2015.
