April 10, 2017

As the fifth stop in the 2017 Fundica Roadshow, the Halifax event made for a memorable, fun-packed day of startup pitches and speaker sessions. The Halifax community came together on April 6, 2017 at Innovacorp to connect and share ideas.

This year, the pitch competition was tough with a total of 11 startups all pitching for the $1,000,000 Investment Award. The startups were evaluated by a panel of judges composed of VCs, banks and government organizations from Startup Halifax, First Stone Venture Partners, First Angel Network, CEED, Futurpreneur, Volta Labs, BDC, ACOA, NSBI and others.

The pitching startups were graded based on market potential, solution, team, pitch and readiness for the $1,000,000 FSVP Investment Award.

In addition to an opportunity to receive the $1,000,000 FSVP Investment Award, each Fundica Roadshow city stop winner receives 3 months of free office space at WeWork, a cloud hosting package from CANARIE and free accounting services from Intuit QuickBooks.

Cora Cole, CEO and Co-Founder of GreyLitMatters, won the Halifax Roadshow with a captivating pitch about how their company offers “a modern peer review process for grey literature by storing, sharing, and disseminating unpublished, non-peer reviewed research.” They aim to present their improved peer-review process on a global level.

“Having Fundica come to Halifax is really big news for our community… Atlantic Canada has a lot of entrepreneurial spirit; we’ve been on the edge of a number of technologies and exits so I’m just really glad we’re starting to get that recognition,” said Cole about the Fundica Roadshow.

The Fundica Roadshow will be in the West coast this month! Register now for the Vancouver event on April 28th and enjoy an intense pitch competition, valuable networking opportunities and great speaker sessions!
